RGG's first historical spin-off, reimagining the legend of swordsman Miyamoto Musashi — wearing Kazuma Kiryu's face — in the early Edo period. It introduced the recurring trick of casting series regulars as historical figures.
Its katana-focused combat blended with town-strolling and minigames carries over almost wholesale into Like a Dragon: Ishin!. If you enjoyed Ishin, Kenzan is its prototype.
It proved the modern-yakuza formula could transplant into a period setting — the direct root of Ishin!, which finally gave the concept a global release.
